Find answers to common questions about backtesting, data, AI features, and pricing.
Is manual backtesting really free?
Yes. Manual backtesting — replaying market data, placing trades, and tracking performance — is completely free with no limits. You only pay for AI and ML features, which use a credit-based system.
How do credits work?
Credits are used for AI-powered features like conversational model building, custom synthetic data generation, and ML model backtesting. You buy credit packs as needed — no subscriptions or recurring charges.
Do credits expire?
No. Once you purchase credits, they stay in your account until you use them. There are no expiration dates or monthly limits.
Can I try AI features before buying credits?
New accounts receive a small number of complimentary credits so you can try out the AI features before purchasing a credit pack.
Free Backtesting, Pay-As-You-Go AI
Prax is designed so every trader can start for free. Manual backtesting — replaying markets, placing trades, and tracking performance — costs nothing. When you're ready to explore AI model building and synthetic data, credit packs let you pay only for what you use.
What data formats does Prax support?
Prax supports CSV uploads with OHLCV (Open, High, Low, Close, Volume) data. We also accept common exchange export formats. Data validation checks run automatically on upload to flag any issues.
Can I use data for any market?
Yes. Prax is market-agnostic — forex, crypto, stocks, commodities, futures, or any other asset class. If you have the historical data, you can backtest it on Prax.
Is my uploaded data private?
By default, your uploaded datasets are private and only visible to you. You can choose to share datasets with the community or within your organization workspace.
What is synthetic data?
Synthetic data is artificially generated price data that mimics real market behavior. It lets you practice strategies and train models on unlimited scenarios without waiting for new real-world data.
What is manual backtesting?
Manual backtesting lets you replay historical price data and practice placing trades as if the market were live. You control playback speed, apply indicators, and track your performance — all without risking real money.
How does AI model building work?
Describe the trading model you want in plain English using Prax's conversational interface. The AI assistant helps you select features, configure parameters, train the model, and evaluate results — no coding required.
Can I use Prax with my team or prop firm?
Yes. Prax supports organization workspaces where you can invite team members, share datasets, collaborate on strategies, and manage permissions with role-based access controls.
What markets can I backtest?
Any market where you have historical data. Prax's community data catalog includes forex, crypto, stocks, and commodities. You can also upload your own data for any asset class or market worldwide.
